The Court of Arbitration for Sport were due to make a decision on Barcelona’s transfer ban before the end of 2014.
Due to a bug on the CAS website, confirmation of Barcelona’s transfer ban was upheld on Tuesday morning, before an official decision is released this afternoon.
Despite the fact that the CAS decision is not 100% official, Barcelona have already released their statement regarding the transfer ban which has been in the works since last summer.
Amongst the highlights from an irate Barcelona:
“With all respect for the sports authorities, the Club has expressed its utter nonconformity with the resolution.”
“The errors that the Club might have committed, and which have been recognised and argued before the corresponding authorities are, in all cases, of an administrative nature and to a large extent have been caused by the existing conflict between the FIFA regulations and Spanish legislation, along with the Club’s conviction that it was acting correctly.”
“Therefore, FC Barcelona considers the sanction to be completely disproportionate as it supposes an excessive punishment for the Club, when considering its trajectory and the circumstances of this specific case.”
So where does this leave Barcelona? An appeal seems very likely, especially with the support of La Liga and due to the severity of the statement today.
The Catalan giants will have to delve into their famed youth system for the next year.
This is great news for the likes of Rafinha, Sergi Samper, Gerard Deulofeu, Adama Traore etc.
But, you worry about defensive reinforcements for the Barcelona first team, despite the decent record at the back so far under Luis Enrique.
This ban also means Real Madrid will be able to pick their new Galactico next summer with no chance Barcelona can gazump them.
As has been suggested for some time, Real Madrid are the clear favourites to sign Marco Reus…
