Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has confirmed that he will not be
departing the club this summer despite the return of Thibaut Courtois.
The 32-year old Czech international played the second half in
Chelsea’s 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Olimpija Ljubljana on Sunday.
Cech has fully recovered from his shoulder injury he sustained towards
the end of last season, but his future has been the subject of
speculation this summer.
Belgium international stopper, Courtois, has returned to Stamford
Bridge after three successful loan spells with Atletico Madrid. Jose
Mourinho wants both Cech and Courtois to be part of the Chelsea squad
next season, but one of them will have to adapt the bench life.
Cech insists that he is prepared to fight for his place in the starting eleven and has no intentions of leaving Chelsea.
“I’m staying at Chelsea, that for sure,” Cech told Ekipa24.
“I really don’t mind that there are two great keepers at Chelsea. That motivates me ever more.
“You always have to fight if you want to be on great level. And
there is not only Courtouis and me, even Matej Delac is showing that he
is great keeper.”
